Ian S. Markham

Ian Markham is a Christian ethicist and theologian. He is Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and President of The General Theological Seminary, and has served as Priest Associate at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Alexandria, since 2007.
He writes and teaches at the meeting points of belief and public life: Christian ethics, theology and apologetics, dialogue between the religions, Anglican and Episcopal life, ministry and theological education, and the place of religion in a secular age. Across some forty books he has argued that Christian faith is at its best when it engages the world rather than withdraws from it — and that the doctrines most often given up are the ones most worth defending.
